I could make a list now that includes showering, going to the bathroom, finishing a meal, uninterrupted sleep and an undisturbed laundry pile, but really I want to talk about phone calls. Yes. Phone calls. I knew this was a thing. A child could be sleeping a sleep of a sweet fluffy angel from heaven, or completely enthralled in the drama of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, or distracted by the love and adoration received by her father who just arrived home from work, but as soon as you make the commitment and pick up the phone to place. I think it’s some sort of born- in instinct. Anyway, the phone hasn’t always been my best friend, but now it’s become a sort of nemesis of mine, especially when I finally have to give in and make those annoying calls to . Because after my failed half- hour credit card phone call I decided to tackle my UPS situation. They set it, with the best intentions, on a bench in their garage where it enjoys a safe existence for approximately 5 seconds before dad’s pup Waylon shreds into it, spreading shards of cardboard, plastic and the entire contents of the package across the front lawn and driveway, sending my poor parents on a scavenger hunt for our belongings. It’s not a pretty sight, especially if. Sometimes I feel so alone in my redneck situations. So long story (sorta) short, I made the dreaded phone call, if only to save me from having to dig through Waylon’s future poop pile for the expensive pocket knife. It didn’t go well. It started out with the baby safely in her high chair enjoying. She just wanted a tracking number. But I didn’t have a tracking number.

Muir Trail Ranch offers the chance to return to a simpler time, away from the stress and demands of modern life. What I had was a baby who had just pooped her pants. I was put on hold. I changed the diaper. I was put on hold again. I made a bottle. I was put on hold again only to be told to call the company and give them the right address. They had the right address. It took me thirty minutes to get her to misunderstand me. I hung up. I called for a tracking number. I called UPS again. I put the baby down to crawl around and picked up a broom to try to multi- task. UPS call. Keeping the baby alive. That’s what my life has come to. But I nearly failed at it all. While I swept dirt and half- alive boxelder bugs in little piles I tried to explain the dog situation to the UPS lady, pleaded with her to just tell me how to get the message to my local UPS driver, who, according to her, doesn’t have a phone, or a boss, turned around to find the baby playing in the dirt piles and hung up with no delivery solution just in time to watch my baby put a boxelder bug in her mouth and chomp down. I screeched. She crawled toward me, her hands slower than her knees, and banged her head on the floor. She cried. I picked her up. I cried. And that is why I hate the phone.

Reviews - American (New) - 8. N Point St, Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, CA - Restaurant Reviews - Phone Number - Menu. N Point St. San Francisco, CA9. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation for 1. Sunday, it was the only reservation I was able to get about a week before our trip to San Francisco. When we arrived our table was not ready so we sat at the bar. They were extremely apologetic about the inconvenience and they offered to pay for our cocktails at the bar. The service and food was phenomenal. They must of apologized about 5 times, which didn't fix the problem but it did make us feel like they knew we must of been starving. They again offered to pay for our drinks during dinner as well. I believe they start taking reservations two months in advance via email or phone. Everything was artistically served and was exquisite. They are on top of every detail orchestrating the change our plates and silverware throughout each course. I felt the only thing left for them to do was to hand feed me. They managed to turn our initial disappointment into a Extraordinary Culinary Dinning Experience. Great place if you are foodie and truly enjoy dinning experiences. I found plastic in my food! I was chewing on my risotto when I bit on plastic. When I asked the waiter about it, they apologized and said it looks like the bowl they store the food in had chipped off into my food. They said they wouldn't charge me for the risotto, but I expected better service considering this had happened. The risotto is a little salty.. Their beef filet had an interesting flavor due to some sort of blue cheese they put on it. Otherwise, I just expected better service considering what had happened. We made reservations at 8 and weren't seated for 1. It just didn't flow the way I expected it to. Gary Danko is a hard restaurant to quantify and rate. Clearly, they had us on a time schedule to get us out before the next reservation. The street value of that is about $2. This stuck out because I happened to have an '8. That request was not met with anything close to a reaction that would ever be confused with accommodating. Up to this point there was barely 5 minutes between courses. Of course, we booked it a few months in advance. We spent the day at Alcatraz and were running late so I didn't have time to change before I got there - I arrived in a sweater and tennis shoes with wild hair. I thought I was going to be judged for looking so grungy. To my surprise, the host and waiter didn't even bat an eye. All of the staff were super attentive and kind. My boyfriend and I decided to skip the tasting menu and each do a four course meal. I liked how you can choose any four items from the list instead of being limited to selecting one item from each category - this worked well for my boyfriend since he's not a dessert person. This dish was delicious! The risotto was so creamy and melted in my mouth and there were nice big pieces of shrimp throughout. I wanted to lick the bowl but that wouldn't have been very classy of me. I would definitely recommend this! Nice thick slices of Ahi tuna. Who doesn't love lobster? This was not simply boiled and placed on my plate. Love went into this dish. The salmon was beautifully cooked and, like all of the other seafood dishes we ordered, was super fresh. The mustard sauce was a bit potent for my taste and was a bit sour but it was still a good dish overall. The large scallops were cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of scallops because but the texture can be tough to chew but these were amazing. I ordered it medium but it was more like medium well/almost well done. I didn't feel like sending it back so I ate it anyway. My first bite was kind of dry but the rest of it was juicy so I was content. It was a lot juicier than my seared filet of beef. And it didn't taste gamey at all. Red meat lovers will enjoy this dish for sure! Interestingly, my favorite one was the olive oil creme brulee. It's a unique flavor but it works! I wanted to eat it all but I was super full.. I just ate half of it. Any my favorite part is the cute little pumpkin cheesecake bread that we got to take home. Which, by the way, tasted amazing in the morning. We can't wait to come back. I literally don't know how to start this review because I was so ecsatic with my experience and the food here!!! My boyfriend took me to Gary Danko for our 3- year anniversary (lucky me!). He made our dinner reservation 2 months in advance and we were set! We chose the 4- course menu instead of the 5- course because we figured 4 courses was enough food already.. And we chose 4 courses over 3 courses because 3 is too little to try at your first time at GD! My first time having foie.. I know, i've been missing out! I thought it would be too rich for me, but it was perfect. Because it was seared, it melted in my mouth! I didn't get to try the ravioli (bf ordered this) but he enjoyed it! Probably one of the most popular things to order at GD. I've never had rissotto before (deprived?? It was so creamy and flavorful, with big chunks of seafood too! It was very seafood- y so definitely order it if you are a seafood lover like me. The oysters were creamy and sweet, and complemented the salty caviar. I ended up dipping my bread in the sauce after I finished! I also loved the potato puree, much softer than mashed potatoes! I wanted to lick my plate after this dish. The scallops were perfectly seared with a crunchy outside and a buttery soft inside. I was blown away when I had my first piece. The garlic confit was the perfect addition. It was pillowy soft and delicious. You really must try it for yourself. Compared to what I thought gnocchi tasted like (*cough* Olive Garden soup *cough*), this blew me out of the water!! Oh yeah, and the beef was amazing too! I ate a large portion of this because my bf couldn't finish. It had the perfect outer crust while maintaining a medium rare inside. It was cut in slices so you could see the perfect cook on the meat. The lamb wasn't gamey at all either! Something very creamy and decadent to finish off our meal! They also came out with a tray of dessert samplers, which were more than enough to satisfy our sweet tooths afterwards! Napkins are folded when you leave your seat. Bathroom doors are opened for you. Tables are slid out so you can get back in your seat easily. Waters are filled even when they're 5/6 full already. Bread is constantly being refilled. People are always smiling. It's truly an amazing experience! I don't expect to be back anytime soon, but I hope (with all my heart) to be back eventually! I was lucky enough to have my bf take me here for my birthday dinner! We arrived a few minutes before our 6 o'clock reservation. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, our coats were checked, and we were promptly brought to our table. My favorite dish of the night! As tasty as it was, my bf wished there was clarified butter to dip it in. Roast quail stuffed with mushrooms and quinoa- very juicy and plump little bird! Every little bite was so flavorful and with all the stuffing, a surprisingly filling dish. Seared filet of beef with potato gnocchi- cooked medium rare, it melts in your mouth. The gnocchi are heavenly little pillows that melt in your mouth. Trio of cr. My fave was the olive oil as it was lemony, and the bf liked the bourbon. All three were fun to break into! Loved the ambience and the super thoughtful wait staff (they're like graceful ninjas that only appear when you need more bread or water). These desserts totally satisfied my sweet tooth. French Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches with 3 Sauces. Chocolate souffl! Such a nice touch : )My husband and I came here for our 8 year wedding anniversary and it was an excellent meal and night. The service and the food were some of the best we've experienced. The attention to detail was stellar - from the huge fresh flower arrangement next to us, to the amazing anniversary dessert. Most of the people there were having normal dinner conversations. It wasn't like there was a loud group. We were disappointed in this as we were looking for a quieter evening to be able to talk to each other. Sometimes, the server would be right next to us and we couldn't hear what he was saying. Yes, we looked it up later. Although I know that wine is marked up, I thought this was an excessive markup. I felt like we were dining with the couple next to us. I finally had the chance to try the infamous Gary Danko. It was recently my 1- year wedding anniversary, and the husband surprised me with reservations : ) We did the 5- course and can you say.. Cooked to perfection, and mouth watering flavor. Weird I know but there was lotion, real hand towels.. Truly what I needed after rushing there from work!! We even met at Buena Vista Cafe first and had a drink (after I ran to buy some high heels since I only grabbed one from work.. Rookie move on your anniversary). I finished my exam around 8pm, cried hysterical mental tears for about 1. Lyft to GD. The prices are slightly better at GD than LF: 3 courses is $8. The tasting menu is a 5- course menu composed from regular menu options, also priced at $1. Our server decided that it would be less awkward if he served the courses as if we had ordered 4 and 4. We wet our lips with selections from their extensive list of libations. I had the $1. 4 OLD CUBAN made with Diplomatico Gran Exclusiva (a Venezuelan rum), prosecco, lime, sugar, and mint. The boyfriend ordered the $1. DARK & STORMY made with Gosling's rum, Fentimans ginger beer, and lime. We wet our appetites with a complimentary amuse bouche.. I think it was a pea soup. After having tried risotto at a few places, including La Folie, I've decided I'm not a big fan. It's too heavy and creamy for me. But I did love the seafood. Though it's crusted with horseradish, which I abhor, the horseradish didn't seem detract from the dish. I can't even remember tasting it. The pieces are quite lean, so no chewy fat except on the sides. Maybe it's because bison is gamey? MAKING AN AMERICAN CITIZEN (1. English . The Great Depression and World War II, 1. Across the long arc of American history, three moments in particular have disproportionately determined the course of the Republic’s development. Each respectively distilled the experience and defined the historical legacy of a century. Each embraced a pair of episodes with lastingly transformative impacts. From 1. 77. 6 to 1. Revolutionary War and the adoption of the Constitution brought national independence and established the basic political framework within which the nation would be governed ever after. The Great Depression is often called a “defining moment” in the twentieth-century history of the United States. Its most lasting effect was a transformation of. Causes of the Great Depression Powerpoint 1. Causes of the Great Depression(America’s Economic Collapse 1929-1941) 2. The Great Depression lasted from 1929-1939. What caused the Great Depression, the worst economic depression in the history of the United States? From 1. 86. 1 to 1. Civil War and Reconstruction affirmed the integrity of the Union, ended slavery, and generated three constitutional amendments that at least laid the foundation for honoring the Declaration’s promise that “all men are created equal.” And between 1. Great Depression and World War II utterly redefined the role of government in American society and catapulted the United States from an isolated, peripheral state into the world’s hegemonic superpower. To understand the logic and the consequences of those three moments is to understand much about the essence and the trajectory of all of American history. To a much greater degree than in the earlier cases, the changes set in motion by the Great Depression and World War II had their origins outside the United States—a reminder of the increasing interdependency among nations that was such a salient feature of the twentieth century. The Great Depression was a worldwide catastrophe whose causes and consequences alike were global in character. But even after due allowance has been made for the effects of the American stock market’s “Great Crash” in 1. United States Federal Reserve System, there can be little doubt that the deepest roots of the crisis lay in the several chronic infirmities that World War I had inflicted on the international political and economic order. The war exacted a cruel economic and human toll from the core societies of the advanced industrialized world, including conspicuously Britain, France, and Germany. The lingering distortions in trade, capital flows, and exchange rates occasioned by the punitive Treaty of Versailles, as the economist John Maynard Keynes observed at the time, managed to perpetuate in peacetime the economic disruptions that had wrought so much hardship in wartime. What was more, memories of the war’s bitter fighting and vengeful conclusion rendered the postwar international atmosphere toxic. To those abundant physical and institutional ills might be added a rigidly doctrinaire faith in laissez- faire, balanced national budgets, and the gold standard. All of this added up to a witches’ brew of economic illness, ideological paralysis, and consequent political incapacity as the Depression relentlessly enveloped the globe. The United States had participated only marginally in the First World War, but the experience was sufficiently costly that Americans turned their country decidedly inward in the 1. They disarmed their military forces and swiftly dismantled the nation’s war machinery. The United States Senate refused to ratify the Treaty of Versailles and rejected membership in the nascent League of Nations. Congress in 1. 92. American market to foreign vendors with the Fordney- Mc. Cumber Tariff, among the highest in United States history, and the Smoot- Hawley Tariff eight years later. Washington also insisted that the Europeans repay the entirety of the loans extended to them by the US Treasury during the war. And in 1. 92. 4 the republic for the first time in its history imposed a strict limit on the number of immigrants who could annually enter the country. Among those eventually excluded (though none could yet know it) were thousands of Jewish would- be fugitives from Nazi persecution. Militarily, diplomatically, commercially, financially, even morally, Americans thus turned their backs on the outside world. American prosperity in the 1. The millions of immigrants who had swarmed into the nation’s teeming industrial cities in the preceding decades remained culturally parochial and economically precarious in gritty ethnic ghettoes. The overwhelming majority of black Americans still dwelled in the eleven states of the old Confederacy, the poorest and most disadvantaged people in America’s poorest and most backward region. And well before the Great Depression, almost as soon as the Great War concluded in 1. It did not entirely lift until the next world war, more than twenty years later. The long- suffering countryside was home to nearly half of all Americans in the 1. Virtually none enjoyed such common urban amenities as electricity and indoor plumbing. Other maladies began to appear, faintly at first, but with mounting urgency as the Depression began to unfold. A ramshackle, woefully under- regulated private banking system, a legacy of Andrew Jackson’s long- ago war on central banking, had managed to wobble its dysfunctional way into the modern era. Some twenty- five thousand banks, most of them highly fragile “unitary” institutions with tiny service areas, little or no diversification of clients or assets, and microscopic capitalization, constituted the astonishingly vulnerable foundation of the national credit. As for government—public spending at all levels, including towns, cities, counties, states, and the federal government itself, amounted only to about 1. Ideology aside, its very size made the federal government in the 1. Yet for most of the 1. American’s birthright, remained remarkably upbeat. Then in the autumn of 1. The Great Crash in October sent stock prices plummeting and all but froze the international flow of credit. Banks failed by the thousands. Businesses collapsed by the tens of thousands. Millions—nobody knew at first how many, so primitive were the government’s fact- finding organs—went unemployed. Herbert Hoover, elected just months earlier amid lavish testimonials to his peerless competence, saw his presidency shattered and his reputation forever shredded because of his inability to tame the depression monster—though, again contrary to legend, he toiled valiantly, using what tools he had and even inventing some new ones, as he struggled to get the upper hand. By 1. 93. 2, some thirteen million Americans were out of work, one out of every four able and willing workers in the country. Even those horrendous numbers could not begin to take the full measure of the human misery that unemployment entailed. Given the demography of the labor force and prevailing cultural norms that kept most women—and virtually all married women—out of the wage- paying economy, a 2. America had no breadwinner. Many Americans came to believe that they were witnessing not just another downswing of the business cycle, but the collapse of a historic economic, political, and social order, perhaps even the end of the American way of life. Yet curiously, as many observers noted, most Americans remained inexplicably docile, even passive, in the face of this unprecedented calamity. Among those who were perplexed by the apparent submissiveness of the American people as the Depression descended was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Repeatedly he spoke of this, saying that it was enormously puzzling to him that the ordeal of the past three years had been endured so peaceably.”. Those elusive but deep- seated and powerful American cultural characteristics go a long way toward explaining the challenge that faced any leader seeking to broaden the powers of government to combat the Depression. FDR and the New Deal. Elected to the presidency in 1. American people,” Franklin Roosevelt now took up that challenge. He faced a task of compound difficulty: he had to find ways to counter- punch to the Depression crisis, put in place reforms that would make future such crises less likely, and convince his countrymen of the legitimacy of his precedent- shattering initiatives. FDR was destined to hold office for more than a dozen years. He was thrice re- elected, a record matched by no previous incumbent and forbidden to all future presidents by the passage of the Twenty- second Amendment to the Constitution in 1. FDR was then and has remained ever since a surpassingly enigmatic figure. His personality perplexed his contemporaries and has challenged his biographers ever since. His long- serving secretary of labor, Frances Perkins, called him “the most complicated human being I ever knew.”. It is appropriate to call it a vision: that American life could be made more secure. Roosevelt, like Hoover before him, never did find a remedy for the Great Depression. It hung heavily over the land for nearly a dozen years of suffering and anxiety without equal in the history of the republic. Before World War II wiped out the Depression at a stroke, none of FDR’s exertions managed to wrestle the unemployment rate below 1. For the decade of the 1. Some critics mistakenly blame the economy’s stubborn inability to recover on Roosevelt’s own allegedly anti- business policies. Yet while Hoover’s failure to restore the economy led to his political ruin, Roosevelt seized upon the enduring economic crisis as a matchless opportunity to achieve objectives whose scope far transcended the immediate woes of the Depression decade. FDR used the Depression crisis to break the untamed bronco of let- ’er- rip, buccaneering, laissez- faire capitalism that had gone unbridled since the dawn of the industrial revolution in America more than a century earlier. He and his fellow New Dealers invented new governmental institutions like the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to bring stability to the historically shaky banks, the casino- like stock exchanges, and the often violently tumultuous world of labor relations.
